AN ICELANDX FAVORITE

DAY 1 - Overnight flight to Iceland

DAY 2 - Arrive in Iceland. Our driver will wait for you after you’ve cleared Customs at the Airport and take you to your luxury boutique hotel (Sand Hotel or similar) in the heart of Reykjavik where we have booked your room from the night before. That way you can check right in, enjoy breakfast and rest no matter what time you arrive. Mid Afternoon meet-up with your guides at the hotel to be transported for an easy warm-up ride in the Lava Trails just outside of Reykjavik and a transfer back to the Hotel once done. Lunch and dinner for day one is not included unless prearranged, but we highly recommend “Svarta Kaffi” about a block away. Their “soup in bread” is an awesome light lunch. For dinner, we love a sampling of traditional Icelandic delicacies at “Restaurant Þrír Frakkar“ in downtown Reykjavik.

DAY 3 - Early morning pick-up from the hotel, destined for the South Western Highlands in a specially built Icelandic Super-Jeep, the by far most preferred vehicle by the Icelandic Outdoors Crowd. You'll take the scenic route through Þjórsárdalur to reach our destination at the top of one of Iceland’s most celebrated waterfalls, Háifoss. From there you'll start your cross country route heading east towards the active Volcano Hekla and beyond. Hop back in the Super-Jeep to make your way to the Remote mountain hut where you and your group will overnight. Our local chef will greet you with a warm, home-cooked dinner of traditional Icelandic mountain cuisine.

DAY 4 - Start the day in the monochrome landscapes around Hekla with its rich contrast of black sand and bright glaciers breathtaking views and enter the prehistoric naked and tree-less landscapes of the south central highlands,. You and your group will pedal through the colorful Rhyolite mountains and wind down a steep trail to a green oasis on lush riverbanks. The carved canyons along this section of fast single-track will remind you just how recently mother nature formed Iceland through violent eruptions and glacier carvings. To cap this great day of riding, your final destination provides an unforgettable panorama of distant glaciers and blue mountain lakes. This day will include some hike-a-bike sections.

DAY 5 - You and your group will get to relax your legs as the Super Jeeps once again deliver you to an excellent starting point to our continued adventure, about 2-3 hours further into the mountains at Fjallabak. You will cross rivers as you transition to the lush lands closer to the south shore, with crisp waterfalls flowing into pristine lakes and a thin line of hero dirt snaking its way through it all. This is where the now famous Yeti promotional video was filmed in Þórsmörk. Stop at a mountain cabin for warm soup and Kleina (the Icelandic doughnut variant), before venturing out into super scenic landscapes on our bikes for the rest of the day. After about a 6-hour ride we arrive in Þórsmörk where birch trees and grassy meadows are a welcome change. The interesting mix of technical single-track and flow trail delivers us to the Volcano huts, in the Þórsmörk valley, where you can enjoy a well-earned warm shower and sauna. You and your group will enjoy a cozy dinner together overlooking the famous volcano Eyjafjallajökull (Yup – the one Al Roker just couldn’t pronounce) and enjoy a bright night at the campfire.

DAY 6 - Eyjafjallajökull – yeah, easily pronounced as "ay-yah-FYAH'-dlah-yer-ku h-duhl" welcomes you as you enjoy your hearty breakfast and get ready for your final day of mind-blowing terrain! Again, weather will be the deciding factor on which trails we ride today. You will for sure see the wonders of Þórsmörk (Thors Garden) and great views after a challenging hike a bike section. Take a moment to enjoy the stunning views of the glaciers, still snow-capped mountains and dormant volcanoes. Serene birch forests and grassy meadows provide a striking contrast against the blackened earth on which you’ll ride. Several rocky sections and wild river crossings will make for an unforgettable adventure. Enjoy the scenic drive back to. It’s time to crack open a Viking Lager (or two) but remember to get a good night sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a truly spectacular last day. Overnight again at Sand Hotel or similar. Dinner this night is not included, but we are happy to make recommendations or arrangements. Ostabudin is one of our favorites in the neighborhood offering light and delicious local fish specialties

DAY 7 - This is a day to remember.  The Heli departs from the center of Reykjavík.  The 20-25 minute super scenic flights starts over the colorful roofs of Reykjavik. Fly over moss covered lava fields and over an active geothermal region to the dormant volcano Hengill. Away from population, you will descend an ever-changing single-track, pausing only to take in the majesty of this remarkable area. Enjoy the scenery before our final technical fast and flowy traverse down. We end our ride at the geothermal area of Nesjavellir where steam rises from the ground. This is an unforgettable day suitable only for experienced riders with some grit. After riding the Tectonic area, you are shuttled back, about 45 minutes’ drive. Overnight in Reykjavík again at Sand Hotel or similar.  We are back in Reykjavík by (late) dinnertime. It is time to say goodbye. Dinner this night is not included, but we are happy to make recommendations or arrangements. Humarhusid (The Lobster House) is one of our favorites to celebrate a week well spent.

DAY 8 - Breakfast at Hotel Sand (or similar). Enjoy your free time today to explore Reykjavik. Lunch on your own. We will make arrangements for your driver to be there to pick you up in plenty of time before your flight back to the States.
