Both extraordinary areas of mountains meet up at the back of one another, and we get to enjoy the vast openness and endless single-track trails that lead us between both. We stop at a beautiful viewing point for a bush lunch, as we make our way west towards Kloof Gorge, Durban.
Once we arrive in The Valley of 1000 Hills, we are welcomed for a two-night stay at AmmaZulu African Palace. This unique luxury accommodation is an experience in itself, which embodies the Zulu culture and overlooks the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve. After dinner at a local restaurant, we enjoy the unique palace and get ready for some more African enduro adventures.

Day 3
Ride into The Valley of 1000 Hills
Waking up in AmmaZulu African Palace, we have a breakfast with a view and get ready for the day’s ride in the Valley.
The Valley of a Thousand Hills is the Kingdom of the Zulu people. This area forms around the twisting path of the mighty Umgeni River. The Umgeni river flows from the Drakensberg Mountains (World Heritage Site) to the warm Indian Ocean.
Magnificent scenery awaits you on today’s ride, as we explore into the rolling hills and valleys that extend as far as you can see, in every direction. We ride in an African bush-like jungle, with many climbs and descents, and single-track twists through the mountains.
Once we have explored and ridden the many, many hills and valleys, we head back to the palace for the evening, and into Kloof town, for a dinner at a local brewery, with a delicious tasting menu, before sleeping like a king at the AmmaZulu African Palace.

Day 4
Zulu Culture & Safari Experience, Rest Day
The Valley of 1000 Hills has been home to Zulu tribes for centuries, with many continuing to practice this and live their unique traditional lifestyle today. Shaka made his mark here in 1816 when he became king of the Zulu people, one of South Africa’s largest cultural groups.
PheZulu Culture and Safari Experience is where we take a rest day off the bikes, to enjoy the local culture and a safari. A rest is welcomed, after three full days of enduro riding. We will be taken on a journey of rhythm and African culture at PheZulu, where the world famous Gasa clan will teach us about Zulu traditions. We also enjoy an open vehicle guided 4×4 game drive through the PheZulu Conservation area and get to view a few African animals including buck, zebra and giraffe.
After the day’s activities, we will return to the Salt Rock beach resort hotel, where you are free to enjoy the beach that is less than 50m from your room, a swim at the hotel pool, or an ‘Ipi Tombi’ Zulu body massage, the ultimate relaxation, before a dinner at the hotel and rest before the next day’s riding.

Today’s lunch stop is a packed lunch and cold coca-cola enjoyed at a local ‘Shebeen’ (African bush pub) with a few of the locals in the area- a unique but traditional experience in the mountains of Glendale. From here we have fun, challenging sections of river bed and river crossings, to take us back through the valleys and back up the mountains.
