This tour traverses the volcanic rift through Iceland where Vikings of old saw the Viking Gods play with eruptions, lava, and hot spring activity.
We fully utilize our 4x4 trucks to reach beyond the mountains to hot springs, visiting unbelievable pearls of natural beauty such as Landmannalaugar, Thorsmork, Lake Myvatn and the hot springs at Hveravellir.

Day 1 | Hit the ground running

An IcelandX driver will be waiting for you in the arrival hall.

Enjoy breakfast with the group then a tour of one of Icelands largest lava cave. This may be the last darkness you experience as the rest of the tour is marked by the midnight sun.

Leave your luggage at your hotel in the heart of Reykjavik and grab a lunch while you wait for your room to be ready. Enjoy this wonderfully lively and extremely walkable city on the edge of the habitable world.

Day 2 | The Valley of Thor – Puffins – Glaciers – Black Beaches​

Drivers pick up the 4x4’s and return back to the hotel, load up luggage and head out to the South Coast. First stop is the magnificent Valley of Thor, dedicated to the old Norse God of Thunder.

Hike at least on of it’s incredible slot canyons. Visit the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogarfoss. Visit the puffins in Dyrholaey and the rock formations at Reynisfjara.

​Day 3 | The Jewels of the Southern Interior

As you leave Vik we take the first opportunity to get off the beaten track and into the rough interior, marked by violent eruptions and lava flows.

You will see constantly changing awe inspiring landscapes until you reach the world famous Hot Spring Oasis of Landmannalaugar, where we stop for a dip in the warm river and grab our lunch packs. Further through the colorful rhyolite mountains and lava fields to Sigoldufoss and Haifoss waterfalls before we reach our hotel for the night in geothermal farmlands of the south.

Day 4 | The Seats of Viking Power

This morning the group will head to Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall, and then head over to the rift valley of Thingvellir, the ancient parliament site of the Vikings.

Cut over the mountain tracks to the lush valley of Borgarfjordur. You’ll stop at the amazing Hraunfossar waterfalls and the massive hot spring of Deildartunguhver before reaching the hotel near Borgarnes.

Day 5 | Traversing to the Arctic Circle Region

You will get a little reprieve from the rough highland tracks as you stay mainly on the ring road this day, with a couple of hikes to Grabrok and perhaps the waterfall of Glanni before we experience how the Icelanders lived in the middle ages at the restored farm of Glaumbaer. On to Akureyri where we arrive in the mid afternoon with plenty of time to walk around town and perhaps jump into the local geothermal pool.

Day 6 | Waterfall of the Gods & the Lake the Devil Made

Leave your luggage today. Head east from Akureyri through one of Icelands longest tunnel. Start the day by the breathtaking waterfalls of the Gods, Godafoss. The rest of the day we spend exploring lake Myvatns amazing geology. Lava flowed over the original lake thousands of years ago creating massive steam explosions, which left behind perfectly cone shaped craters, lava mazes boiling mud pits, hot spring caves and massive craters. Not to mention one of the most varied nesting grounds for ducks in the world. You might even recognize a number of backdrops from “The Game of Thrones” series as you travel around the lake.

End the night with a midnight sun whale watch from the town pier.

Day 7 | Desert Crossings

Start off heading West towards Reykjavik. Leave the main road for gravel and mountain trails while you head straight south over the highlands.

Visit the geothermal oasis at Hveravellir hot spring area, grab a dip if time allows, before reaching the lowlands again. Enjoy the serenity of the famous Geysir hot spring after hours.

Day 8 | White Water Rafting and Return to Reykjavik

Get excited to get wet this morning. Enjoy a breakfast and get geared up for an awesome day of white water rafting and cliff diving to finalize your Viking transformation. Continue towards Reykjavik, drop off the Super-Jeeps and check into your hotel for your last night.

Day 9 | Reykjavik to Airport

Wake up in Reykjavik with some free time for a short roam around before your journey home.

Don’t forget to stock up on Icelandic delicacies and snaps to share with your friends as you tell them about your Viking adventures!

Today is a good time to explore the city, museums, churches, enjoy some of the great pastries and coffee houses, feed the ducks at Reykjavik centrum lake Tjörnin or enjoy hand made chocolates at Omnom and do some last minute shopping. (B)
